Some good advice from the Department for Education, South Australia for our Year 7 and 9 families.

In 2025, our wellbeing team invited staff and students to participate in forums to imagine what a wellbeing mural could look like. Together, the community shared ideas about a design that would represent the many elements of our school while weaving in themes of connection, belonging and wellbeing.
Local artist and current Arts Leader Dane Louis brought these ideas to life, transforming the feedback into a vibrant mural that celebrates the spirit of our community. At its heart sits the sunflower and the words “Be the Change,” a message that holds special meaning within our school and reminds us of the impact each person can have.
Named “Bee Kind,” the mural reflects both kindness and collective responsibility. Painted in stages, it became a true community project, with the support of many contributors from within and beyond the school.
This wall stands as a daily reminder that when a community works together with kindness, care, creativity and purpose, we can all be the change. #beekind 🐝🌻💙

Our two Year 12 Outdoor Ed classes have been working hard learning about and connecting with the people, history, and environment at Anstey Hill Recreation Park 🌿

We were lucky to hear from Mr Jon Hall, a fifth-generation member of the family who founded and built the original Newman’s Nursery within Anstey Hill Recreation Park 🌳.

We also did a session with the Friends of Anstey, pulling weeds (mostly African Daisy) and learning about invasive species in the park 🌼🧤.

The Year 12s have officially kicked off their “fun” events for the year today… and let’s just say backpacks were clearly overrated.
For Anything But a Bag Day, creativity was in full swing across the school. We spotted books being carried in a wheelbarrow, animal cages, eskies, lawnmowers, laundry baskets, and even a giant LEGO head! There were also bins, tubs and a few contraptions that probably require an engineering degree to explain.
It was a great start to the Year 12 celebrations, with plenty of laughs and some seriously inventive problem-solving along the way. We can’t wait to see what they come up with next! 🎉📚

🏃‍♀️ Sports Day is almost here! 🏃‍♂️ Wednesday March 4 🏃‍♂️

This is your moment to be bold, back yourself and jump in – whether it’s athletics, novelty events or something that pushes you out of your comfort zone. Have a crack. Perseverance is the real podium finish.

Remember, we’re at the Bridgestone Athletics Centre for the whole day – no leave passes – and all school expectations apply (yes, even on the bus!). Do the right thing, look after each other and represent BPIHS with pride.

Be Sun Smart ☀️, bring some cash for the stalls and keep the place tidy. Body paint is out, house colours are in – and hair spray happens at home.

Most importantly: show unity. Cheer loudly, encourage fiercely and celebrate what makes us different and the same. Let’s make it a day full of spirit, respect and a whole lot of house pride! 💛❤️💚💙

A Special Report: Discussing War & Conflict
Children are frequently exposed to distressing news through the 24-hour news cycle and social media. These experiences can provoke anxiety, especially in young minds still forming their worldviews. Parents and caregivers should be mindful of overexposure to such content as it can lead to symptoms similar to post-traumatic stress disorder. Children’s responses to trauma can vary, from being strong emotional reactions to being indifferent. It can leave an emotional imprint that can affect a childs behaviour and perception of danger.
Children need reassurance about their safety as they navigate uncertain times. Tailor conversations to your childs age and emotional maturity. Younger children benefit from simplified explanations focusing on peace, empathy, and cooperation, whilst older children can delve into historical events, root causes of conflict, and the complexities of international relations.
Before discussing these topics with your child, it is also important to assess your own emotions and comfort level. By staying calm and providing physical comfort will help your child regulate their own emotions. In challenging times, compassionate adults play a crucial role in helping children cope with anxiety and providing hope and understanding in our complex world.
This Special Report provides guidance on how to tackle this difficult topic and helping children understand there is still hope in our complex world.
We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this Special Report, and as always, we welcome your feedback.
If you do have any concerns about the wellbeing of your child, please contact the school for further information or seek medical or professional help.
