All students have one extended care group (ECG) lesson each week where they develop their personal learning plan. Activities are based on the needs of individuals and year levels and focus on the education and well-being of students. ECG program includes global perspectives and citizenship development activities.
Year 7
Students will be undertaking a range of activities to support their integration into high school and develop a sense of belonging to both the school and their care group. Students will receive mentoring support from trusted senior students to develop an understanding of the school culture and how they can contribute. Personal wellbeing will also be a strong focus.
Year 8
Students undertake a variety of activities to identify their learning styles, to work collaboratively and communicate with others, to begin their personal learning plan(PLP).
At the end of year 8 students prepare a round table presentation for family, their care group teacher and another staff member on a collection of their learning throughout the year.
Year 9
Students continue their personal learning plan. Many activities focus on citizenship and the roles of individuals to be good citizens at school, in the community and beyond. Students prepare a 10 minute presentation at the end of the year on their career path and the habits and capabilities they use.
Year 10
Students finalise their personal learning plans for SACE credits during this year. A major aspect of this is on a possible career. Students undertake a variety of activities that leads to students undertaking a week of work experience.
All students in years 7, 8, 9 & 10 will be involved in a variety of sessions to complement our extended care group program that are appropriate for their age, including:
- Course counselling
- Cyberbullying / Internet safety
- Performances by Brainstorm Productions
- Elevate Education – study skills session
Years 11 and 12
In these year levels the ECG program focuses on the development of independent learning and study skills. Students learn about note taking, time management, exam preparation, etc.
Students will also be involved in a variety of sessions to complement our ECG program that are appropriate for their age, including:
- Road Safety – by SAPOL, RAA
- SACE and course counselling
- University information sessions
- SATAC admission
- Elevate Education – study skills session
